J.T. Martin Contract Federal Trousers (Trapezoid Gusset Version)
John T. Martin produced 785,000 pairs of Union infantry (dismounted) trousers during the Civil War. Surviving examples from this contractor show variations in construction, gusset design, and pockets. However, multiple trapezoid gusset variations with side-seam pockets survived the war.
These reproductions are patterned from an original pair, We use custom wool that matches an original’s fabric color, weight, and weave exactly. These trouser are produced using the same hybrid method as many wartime factories: sewing the long seams by machine for strength and finishing the details by hand.
